West Ohio Food Bank and Lima Senior HS Agricultural Education Program Announce Partnership
LIMA, OH (Sep. 3, 2026) – The West Ohio Food Bank and Lima City Schools announced an innovative partnership on Thursday, Sep. 3, 2026, at the Lima Senior Career Tech Building on East Edwards Ave. in Lima. A ribbon cutting to celebrate the partnership also took place courtesy of the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce.
Local community leaders, agricultural businesses, and staff from area lawmakers offic es were also on hand.
Hydroponic growing towers have been purchased by the food bank, through utilized grant funding. Students will receive hands-on learning opportunities in agriculture and innovative growing practices, as the fresh produce that students grow will be provided back to the Food Bank to help feed our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
The growing is already getting results. Students recently completed their first harvest, complete with fresh lettuce, collard greens, and arugula, which was given to the food bank to distribute to those in need.
This partnership demonstrates that addressing hunger isn’t just about meeting an immediate need, but its also about educating and engaging the next generation, strengthening our local food system, and finding new ways to create healthier communities.
This entire effort involved a team of leaders coming together. Justin Richardson, an instructor of teaching in environmental, safety and occupational health management at the University of Findlay, got the conversation started about the possibilities of this program. Tim Garmon’s guidance and instruction within the Lima Senior Ag and Outdoor Occupations program, and acting as the FFA advisor, will oversee the future progress of this partnership.
