Free training provided by:

Cenovus Lima Refinery, The Hub and Lima/Allen County Chamber Foundation are investing in workforce development for one of the most rewarding careers in the region, process operations, with free training that qualifies students for entry level process operator roles.
The Process Operations Certificate program is a specialized course that introduces potential employees to a key role in the petrochemical industry, process operator.
The course covers the basics of equipment, processes, hazards and safety associated with the petrochemical industry (distillation, instrumentation, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors and more.)
Upon completion of the course students will be ready for employment as process operators at refineries, ethanol plants, chemical plants and other industries that rely on process operations. Those who successfully complete the course earn a State of Ohio-recognized skills certificate through Apollo Career Center.
Students will meet from 9 am to 1 pm, four days a week, for 11 weeks at The Hub, 219 S. Central Ave.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR
Our lead instructor for the class is Michael Springer, Senior U.S. Technical Training Advisor, with Cenovus Lima Refinery. Mike has 50 years of experience with the refinery, beginning his remarkable career when he was 18 years old as a process operator. He has also served in multiple leadership positions, including Refinery Shift Superintendent. Currently, Mike’s central focus is training new process operators.
MORE ABOUT THE PROCSES OPERATOR ROLE
A process operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance activities of a highly safety-sensitive chemical and petroleum process operating area. Operators work around chemicals and petroleum products under high pressure and temperature and large, high-speed machines. They operate equipment, pumps, compressors, and control panel consoles. They often must meet physical requirements around outdoor work, climbing/working at heights, and lifting.
Operators demonstrate leadership and ownership of safety by:
- Understanding operations and process, keeping up to date with changes, being a continual learner.
- Meeting facility targets by ensuring key safeguards are in place, knowing production goals but understanding that safe operating limits take priority over production, reporting unplanned events and taking part in pre-job huddles and after-action reviews.
- Monitoring facility conditions and solving issues with thorough shift handovers, reviewing non-routine operations, housekeeping, conducting rounds, and performing some maintenance.
- Enforcing facility standards and procedure compliance by ensuring standards are maintained and records maintained; operating a unit with understanding of things such as environmental regulations, work authorization, permit limits, and energy isolation; ensuring a safe work environment.
APPLICATION
Our class is limited to 15 students. Interested applicants should complete the following online application by March 3.
